Drdo H. A meminductor is a brand-new circuit component that has been discovered by Rusty Harris, an associate professor in the Texas A&M University Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
A circuit element is a piece of electrical equipment used to help direct and regulate the movement of electricity through an electrical circuit. The resistor, capacitor, and inductor are the three traditional electrical components. The memristor and the memcapacitor are two additional circuit components that were only discovered in the last 15 years. These more recent circuit components are referred to as mem versions of their classical counterparts, and they function like memories in that their current and voltage properties depend on previous current or voltage values over time.
“It’s always exhilarating to make a new discovery. And the interaction between students and professors on this project was stunning. We fed off each other throughout our brainstorming sessions—I learnt new things from our conversation, and he learned new things from my expertise.”
Dr. H. Rusty Harris, associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University,
Harris said, “In terms of electrical engineering, those two discoveries turned the world on its head a little bit.”. “We thought we had three all of a sudden, but now we’ve found these two more. We then reasoned, “OK, there must be more then, but how do we map all of these things relative to each other?” It turned out that there is a relationship between each resistor and its family and between each capacitor and its family.”.
To measure the magnetic flux density and magnetizing field strength of the inductor circuit element, Harris and his student built a two-terminal passive system that was primarily made up of an electromagnet interacting with two permanent magnets. Harris was able to demonstrate the existence of the pinched hysteresis curve within the inductor, leading to its mem-state, or memory-like nature, by using the same definition that the memristor and memcapacitor were realized.
Lower values of inductance are produced by the winding’s motion for the negative half-cycle of current because the ferromagnetic core gradually occupies smaller winding volumes.
In the journal Scientific Reports’ February issue, the researchers published their findings.
Harris remarked that a new discovery is very exciting.”. “And the professor-student interaction on this project was lovely. During our brainstorming sessions, we fed off each other—I learned new things based on my discussion with him, and he learned new things based on my experience.”.
